Purely Sweet Bakery was born from a vision of helping others.
Purely Sweet Bakery was born out of a passion of bringing healthy, all natural (many organic) whole food options to help others navigate food intolerances without feeling deprived because of a special diet and to do so in the safest way.
“I’ve been surrounded by talented bakers my whole life, and because of an auto-immune illness that left me sensitive to so many foods, I needed to turn my once wheat and dairy laden diet into creating treats that tasted much like my Great Grandma Helen’s pies (hers were perfection!) or Grandma Ethel’s desserts and candies (a true artist!) and Great Grandma Robinson’s breads and baked goods. The baking passion runs deep in my family!” - Dawn Vaflor, Owner
Purely Sweet Bakery has been providing safe products to the marketplace since 2013, both through retail (brick and mortar, public markets, food truck) and through wholesale (coffee shops, health food shops, and gourmet grocery stores). It’s also been important to us that our products contain only exceptional ingredients, using many organic and whole foods in our recipes. It sets us apart from other specialty bakeries. We are unapologetically proud of our choice to use only the best, even if our price point is more than our competitors. We only want the best experience from the first look at our products to the very last bite of our treats!
Meet the Owner.
An Ohio State University graduate with a degree in Zoology owner and creator of Purely Sweet Bakery, Dawn Vaflor couldn’t imagine building a successful bakery after leaving a career in pharmaceutical research with Battelle Memorial Institute in the early 90s. However, because of her passion for baking and a battle with a chronic health condition which led to numerous food and chemical allergies, she had the vision to begin a business to help others enjoy great tasting whole foods which eventually grew to formulate her business with emphasis and healthier choices that were safe for multiple dietary needs. She grew her business from a small roadside farmer’s market to servicing multiple wholesale accounts, a retail presence with the a coffee shop partnership, a successful wedding cake and catering business, and a food truck that she takes to food truck rallies & private events. She has an incredible staff of 15+ employees with skill sets ranging from baking and decorating to delivery and operation management. She believes it’s the success of the Purely Sweet Bakery team that has built the success she has experienced these past 10 years.

“Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?”
“I think many of us in business can say that navigating a pandemic either made us stronger or broke some of us. It was tough on many different levels, from staffing changes to costs of ingredients and supply chain issues. I definitely know now, if I didn’t know before, what I am made of after going through such challenges. I would like to think that my years of dealing with a chronic illness that could be really hard at times prepared me for the tough challenges that came with a pandemic as a small business owner. I had to dig deep and put in the hard work, longer days, and patience with the circumstances as they were, and lean into my faith in God for strength to endure the hardest days. - Dawn Vaflor, Owner
